The masks are mainly used for protecting the human body from harmful effects of biological and chemical materials. There are certain materials like hydrogen cyanide, chlorine, mustard agent and phosgene which were used as weapons in World War I. These gaseous weapons were the reason for many deaths among the same side troops, hence came the need for masks to protect themselves.
There has been a very good improvement in the technology of producing these masks and the modern day masks can prevent humans from all types of poisonous gases. There may be different types of masks available but the technology used is the same for all. The filtration technique is used in most of the cheapest masks. The air pollutants are basically larger than the life giving oxygen particles hence with the use a fine mesh these pollutants can be filtered. There are many other useful chemicals which are used for absorbing these harmful gases and so these are used in the modern day mask manufacturing. But these kinds of masks will have less usability since they will be able to absorb only specific gases. The most recent technology is by chemical neutralization which nullifies the poisonous content present in the air. Some masks may even have tubes for drinking water, winterization kits and small communication equipments for providing proper communication to the user.
Most masks provide protection to the internal organs and face, but nowadays poisons mainly affect the skin which may be a vital threat during wars. Hence the need for manufacturing fully covered body suits which are attached to the highly protective masks came into play. This has been the best option till now for protecting the human body from harmful and poisonous gases.
